MOTA PATRIOT

LEON ARMSTRONG

AKA

GLITTERGIRL

MY STORY

My name is Leon Armstrong and I am known as the GlitterGirl Patriot. I was born in Florida, raised in a military community because my Father was an MP in the Army. My Mother taught classes at church and both raised us to volunteer in our communities.

WHY I STARTED:

I started after my husband passed from suicide. A former teammate invited me to come and I fell in love.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT SKATING:

Skating is for everybody. It’s freedom. It feels like you are flying! When in doubt, Skate it out!

WHAT BEING A PATRIOT MEANS TO ME:

Being a Patriot to me is loving my country through activism. Since our President has come into power, the radical left has amped their division of our people. American people. Whether you are neutral to politics, libertarian, or conservative, the left often attacks freedom of speech. This ideology has spread and has turned into violence. As a Patriot, I am always proud to be American and I want what’s best for our people including standing against those who oppose what makes our country free! I want to bust the boxes they want us in and cross the lines that divide us.

GOALS:

This year I would love to create safe spaces for victims of domestic violence and mental illness through skating. A space where there is no judgement for life choices past or present without fear someone is going to dox them or harass them. Within five years, I hope to buy a house for my entire family so no matter where we are, we can always come home. Also L.O.L., Glitter on as many people as I can. Spread the love! Glitter is just a load of happy little twinkles.

Mikey Ruiz

MY STORY

My name is Michael Anthony Ruiz Jr, better known as Mikey. I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and by the time I was able to walk, my parents strapped skates to my feet.

WHY I STARTED:

My parents owned a skating rink, I fell in love with skating, and I loved going fast.

WHAT BEING A PATRIOT MEANS TO ME:

Being a Patriot for Mota skates, to me, means honor, determination, and hard work. Growing up I watched my parents work hard and saw how they were so determined to make a better life for our family, it definitely instilled those qualities into me. I believe that these qualities have also helped me to become a Patriot. Coming in as a now 3rd year competitor, being able to work with one of the best skating brands in the business is a blessing. Hopefully with my story I can inspire others skaters to become hardworking and determined Patriots.

GOALS:

To make my parents proud and become the best I can be.
